On offer is a fascinating glimpse into the world of the mid-19th-century American West. The author of this diary is Charles Blodgett Waggoner. He was born in 1849 in what later became Logan County, Oklahoma, and lived in the small community of Marshall, OK. Waggoner passed away in 1929 at the age of 79. He was 24 when he began this diary. Waggoner worked around town as a handyman. His diary details his daily activities, people he interacts with, and various jobs he works on.

"Nice day. Cool. Worked on Sumers Drug Store all day. Went home at night and Sis & Peter & children had come. Stayed at home at night" (June 12).

"Was nice day. Father & I got some lumber and went out and worked on his property all day. At night I went down town. Andersin come back from his tour Sunday morning" (August 3).

"Very hot all day. Father and I went to the picnic . . . I had a splendid good time. Saw July Brown. Was with her and several more" (September 10).

This small diary measures 6 inches by 3.5 inches and contains 183 pages. It is 100 percent complete. The cover is in fair condition. It shows a lot of wear and the flap that extends from the back cover to close the front is torn at the bottom. The binding is in good condition, as are the pages. The handwriting is messy but legible.

With its misspellings and at times hard-to-read text, this fascinating book grants a detailed look into daily life in a small American frontier community. For a local historian or genealogist, the names, locations, and businesses mentioned offer excellent opportunities to flesh out community connections and family lines. ; Manuscripts; 6" x 3.5"; 183 pages; Keywords: American West; Frontier; Wild West; Indian Territory; Charles Blodgett; C.
