On offer is a very thorough medical notebook dating to the 1920s in America. Measuring 10 inches by 8 inches, this book contains 300 pages and is 100% complete. The book is in overall good condition. The hard covers show a few signs of wear but otherwise are solid and intact. The binding is solid and all pages are in good condition. The handwriting is legible. The book is a student notebook. It belonged to Carleton K. Little of Syracuse, NY and was used by him to take notes in a Physiology course offered at State University Medical School. Our informal research has not been able to find any additional information about Carleton K. Little. His school. State University Medical School, could be one of the several medical schools across the United States that used this generic name. Most likely though, it refers to the Medical School at Syracuse University as he notes his address in that city. The notebook covers a two-month period. It is a detailed set of lecture notes on the various major systems within the human body. Topics include the nervous system, the circulatory system, digestive system and others. These notes offer a clear picture of the state of medical knowledge at this juncture. For example, he notes that one way to alleviate hunger is smoking - hardly an acceptable recommendation today. [p 268]. In another place, he notes "Does chewing have any effect on digestion - NO" [p259] Current medical research says exactly the opposite today. For a medical historian or medical educator, this notebook provides a very clear opportunity to compare and contrast this aspect of medical education with that of today. ; Manuscripts; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 300 pages; Keywords: handwritten, manuscript, document, letter, autograph, writer, hand written, documents, signed, letters, manuscripts, historical, holograph, writers, autographs, personal, memoir, memorial, antiquité, contrat, vélin, document, manuscrit, papier antike, brief, pergament, dokument, manuskript, papier oggetto d'antiquariato, atto, velina, documento, manoscritto, carta antigüedad, hecho, vitela, documento, manuscrito, papel, Syracuse University, State University Medical School, Physiology, medical knowledge, 1920s evidence based practice, history of medicine, lecture notes, modern knowledge, medical student history, future physician ; Signed by Author
