1959 Havana Municipal Procurement Letter with Italian Adding Machine Broadside from Orbay y Cerrato, Guanabacoa
12137On offer is a June 10, 1959 typed letter from Orbay y Cerrato, S.A. (Havana), with a stapled promotional broadside for a TOTALIA electric adding machine manufactured by Lagomarsino.
The letter authorizes Sr. José A. Suárez to submit municipal bids [“pliegos de subastas”] to the Ayuntamiento de Guanabacoa for,“muebles, equipos de oficina y estantería metálica para archivo” [“furniture, office equipment and metal shelving for filing”].
The firm’s letterhead lists branches across Santiago de Cuba, Palma Soriano, Bayamo, Holguín, and Matanzas.
Issued weeks after the May 1959 Agrarian Reform Law, the document captures routine municipal procurement still operating between private firms and local government at an early stage of the Revolution. The attached Italian-made adding machine broadside reflects ongoing pre-embargo import supply.
