This navigation and nautical astronomy book, [text pages (391pp) and table pages (387pp), 778pp total, 8vo beige cloth hardback] with illustrations, diagrams, formulas, tables, photograph depictions of marine navigation instruments and tools plus 13 pieces of old 1942 and assumed earlier ephemera tucked in: class handouts; tests on rough, yellowed uncoated paper stock, typed on an old typewriter in serif typeface, including: "Gunnery School First Class Final Examination Dead Reckoning" and "Gunnery School First Class Final Examination Piloting" plus the back endpapers are handwritten by owner with study lists and notes. Other sheets are longer 8-1/2 x14" vertical ruled old white paper stock, contain owner's [owner's name handwritten on front endpaper, "Paul F. Smith, Gunnery #3" Paul F. Smith, Ph.D., was Professor Emeritus, University of North Texas] handwritten notes: aged handwritten papers in black fountain pen ink of numerous longitude and latitude formulas and numbers, diagrams and notes in this technical maritime and marine book, this edition printed at beginning of World War II.
