1854 ORIGINAL MANUSCRIPT REPORT ON A LADY'S LITERARY SOCIETY 'ATHENA'
1728On offer is an original three [3] page manuscript "critics report" detailing a meeting of the "Athena", a society either for women, or celebrating the importance of women handwritten by an unknown author. Dated Sept 1st, [18]54 and features the surnames of several readers though the critic is anonymous. They primarily critique the reading styles, offering little commentary on whatever was being read. It appears most of the readers were women. The critic also comments on several ladies being rather loud in the audience, by conversing during the readings. Beginning in ink the author switches to pencil halfway through the report. It measures roughly 8 inches tall by 6 1/2 inches wide and is in good condition with two horizontal fold creases and many other small wrinkles and creases present. The paper is toned, with very minor soiling and one or two small hints of foxing.
