1890 ORIGINAL MANUSCRIPT LETTER HANDWRITTEN BY A COLORFUL AND KEEN EYED OBSERVER OF MEXICAN BULLFIGHTING TO HER SISTER MRS. BRIGGS

On offer is a super, original and very colourful four [4] page manuscript letter dated 1890 from San Luis Potasi, Mexico and intriguingly the cover is from Mayor's Office and addressed to Mrs. A.L. Briggs of Rochester, New York from her sister who signed herself Nuate [?]. A very colourful writer, intelligent and well traveled: After briefly catching up with familial matters our author writes: 'Lottie was ashamed to tell you that she was queen of a bullfight. There was to be a sham bull fight not by the bullfighters but by young men and the bulls horns sawed off three inches and no bulls were to be killed.' She goes on to describe how Lottie came to be made queen, a fantastic description of the afternoon of fights and she goes a lot of detail about the town and its people. She notes without emotion that in fact 5 or 6 bulls were killed. We read that she sits with Judges and Generals and even lunches with the Governor in his palace the day after the bullfight.
