On offer is an interesting 1877 manuscript relic of American naval history handwritten Lt. Lyman G. Spalding, a midshipman who was commissioned a Lieutenant in the Navy by President Grant. Spalding was a member of surveying sloop The Enterprise, which was assigned to take measurements of the mouth of the Mississippi and this is Spalding's log [Vol. 2] with all the details of the survey. BIO NOTES: Spalding came from a prominent Portsmouth Maine family. He was killed in 1881 in Newport Rhode Island when a torpedo exploded prematurely. 32 pages, 8.5 x 5.5 in.
