1930s ORIGINAL MANUSCRIPT LOG BOOK AND TRAINING JOURNAL OF THE SEA SCOUT PATROL PROGRAM CHARMINGLY WRITTEN AND ILLUSTRATED BY THE SHIP'S COXSWAIN
1989On offer is a charming, original 1930s manuscript log and notebook comprising 42 pages of logs, notes and study materials and drawings (of flags, anchors, ships, etc.) all relating to sailing, ships and the sea, and another section of roughly equal length with notes on geology, rock types, and drawings of formations reflecting a parallel, perhaps later, interest in natural history. The author identifies himself as Coxswain Granville Wilson of the Sea Scout Patrol Harrison. Eleven Scouts are noted by list. Collectors and historians will find a very unique book of the exemplfying the beloved Sea Scout movement which began in the early 20th Century in England and then finding huge popularity in America in the early 20s and on. This journal is a superb relic of these 11 young people who were but one group out of 8043 who trained in 1930 records show. There is also a photo dated on the back 1937 of a sailor and more than likely a former Sea Scout. The Sea Scout were particularly noted by Admiral Nimitz for their service in WWII.
