On offer is a very interesting, significant group of one [1] alphabetized address style book used as an order book and ephemera handwritten by a Victorian era Swedish man living in England named, we believe, Oskar Lindquist. While the book has no indication of ownership there are tucked in two [2] notes one marked June 2nd 1871 'Offers' on 'Oskar Lindquist TIMBER IRON COAL AND GENERAL MERCHANT AND COMMISSION AGENT' Newcastle on Tyne, stationery. This appears to be handwritten items such as Stockholm tar, timber from Sweden, materials for London, sleeper and round blocks and white wood++. The other, a four page original letter to Lindquist from Sweden with business information and quotations and numerical data on several items. The last page of the folded letter is marked 'Copy' and appears to be a letter of offer in Swedish for Mr. Lindquist. The book proper has 35 pages of entries begins with a couple of loose pages of names of agents or contacts in places such as Riga, Danzig, Christianstad, Stettin, Memel +++. The alphabet style book entry begins: "A Archangel Goods Spring Shipment then meticulous details of sizes and types of what appears to be timber with order specifics for delivery and costs. C Cox Heisch Co. 11/4/71" with, again concise, precise handwritten details of the trade or order all specs laid out including terms and delivery expectations. Researchers and historians of the hugely important lumber trade will understand the rarity of such detailed specifics. England near bereft of oak lumber required for shipbuilding had been for 100s of years been importing wood stocks from parts of Scandinavia.
