On offer is a very unusual, original 1850s through 1870 French language archive of 165+ pages of handwritten reports, documents and data relating to the infamous and notorious French possession off the coast of French Guiana called Devil's Island. This significant, historical group offers an unparalleled look into the history of medical and hospital care and the archive makes for a comprehensive historical look at the medical conditions of the Island and its inhabitants: prisoners, lepers, natives and French citizens detailing the medical conditions, diseases, prisoner transportation and mortality rates of the era and much more including: "Effectif et Repartition des Transportes sin les Differents Etablissements Pénitentiaires de la Guyane de 1866 a 1877". Distribution and transportation from or to various institutions to the prison between 1866 and 1877, seven pages; "Nombre et Repartition des Malades par Nature de Maladie, de 1866 a 1877 inclus" [Number and distribution of patients by type of disease, 1866 1877 included.]; "Report of March 12th, 1857 on the hygiene of Guyana by medicine chief M. A. Pair. Include statistics on climate and diseases on different sites of prison between 1852 and 1856; a notebook by M.A. Pair descriptive studies, list of moralities, commentaries and tables on some diseases, dated 1856; 1867-1869 notebook of description of different cases of diseases in different sites; notebook on autopsies of dead prisoners 1857-1873; notebook on various cases between 1857 and 1867; documents log the transportation of prisoners, 1864, 1866, 1869 and 1870.
