On offer is the handwritten manuscript diary of the young Anna Hollister of Tompkins County New York. Last four days of December missing, otherwise complete and densely written. Miss Hollister provides interesting reading giving accounts of day to day living in pre-Civil War New York State. An excellent diarist Anna provides details of positive and negative accounts of the town's people and family in her circle. In one passage Anna mentions going to a funeral - "An instance of the sad effect of a depraved and indulgent appetite." Another passage discussing the relations of a particular brother and sister reveals - " Frank…sent a sister's love back with chilling coldness to a heart which once beat with the warmest affection in me for that brother. May God cast out whatever is wrong." Many names are mentioned and events of the local area make this a treasure for Tompkins County historians and collectors.
