c. 1930s HANDWRITTEN AND TYPESCRIPT ARCHIVE OF CORRESPONDENCE, APPLICATIONS, LOAN DOCUMENTS RELATING TO THE UNITED DAUGHTERS OF THE CONFEDERACY [UDC] SOUTH CAROLINA CHAPTER
891On offer are 14 file folders each relating to a different young woman's association with the United Daughters of the Confederacy. One of the organization's primary objectives include securing a proper education for direct blood descendants and relations of honorably discharged veterans of the Confederate Army and these files are directly related to the educational objective as most include, besides applications for membership, loan application forms, report cards and related correspondence. Most of the files contain multiple pages, as many as 20-30 pieces of correspondence and documents with the odd file having somewhat less. The applications provide a wealth of history of South Carolinians who fought for the Confederacy as their relatives filled out a fair bit of information on their veteran antecedents.
