On offer is a rare and exhaustive book of study, most probably made by a student during his studies in Ophthalmology. The author of the book is Frank Joseph Pesce of "161-214 Normal Rd. Jamaica 32, New York." However, it is most likely he wrote the book possibly while attending the Institute of Ophthalmology at University College London or the University of Edinburgh. He mentions his professors and what they each taught: "Physiology - Adler", "Histology & Embryology - Duke Elder,", "Pyrometry - Traquair". These professors are Francis Adler, William Duke-Elder, and H.M. Traquair, all incredibly important scientists and professors in the 20th century. William Duke-Elder is considered one of the greatest ophthalmological minds of the 20th century, and authored numerous foundational textbooks on the science and systems of ophthalmology. Harry Moss Traquair is known as the "Father of Perimetry" having written the groundbreaking book on the subject in the late 1920s. This is an incredibly exhaustive book of ophthalmology, showing an incredibly detailed look into the study of the anatomy, physiology, and diseases of the eyeball. The book is 302 pages. It covers an immense amount of information in the subjects of Optical Anatomy, Physiology, Histology, Embryology, Pathology, Refraction, Perimetry, Optical Surgery, and Ophthalmoscopy. Each page is numbered in the corner and has roughly 35 pages of concise and easily accessible cursive script in a smudge-free black ink. The only exception to this are the last few pages, where Pesce is obviously running out of space in the book and his script becomes much smaller and slightly more difficult to decipher. In addition, 8 pages of writing are attached to the inside back cover. Major sections and paragraphs are underlined to delineate them from the previous section. As the book delves into more advanced topics ("Perimetry," "Optic Nerves," "Different forms of Hemianopia," etc.) the author includes detailed drawings and descriptions of the illustrations. There are a number of pages of cut outs of the 'Fundus', which show detailed drawings of the inside of the eye above descriptions such as "Light Normal Fundus", "Injury", "Myopic Crescent", "Retinitis Pigmentosa" and about a dozen other fundus ailments. Certain sections, especially near the end of the book are underlined or starred in red ink. The front cover contains a sticker of a diamond within a square and the letters "EFH". What EFH is is unclear. The first page shows an inscription reading "Ophthalmology" in beautiful, immaculate gothic free-hand script. It is obvious the author had a talent for penmanship. This is an exceptional book of science, from its first page to its last.; Manuscript; Folio - over 12" - 15" tall; KEYWORDS: HISTORY OF, OPHTHALMOLOGY, OPTICAL ANATOMY, SCIENCE, PERIMETRY, HISTOLOGY, SCIENCE OF THE EYE, DISEASES OF THE EYE, FRANK JOSEPH PESCE, WILLIAM DUKE-ELDER, H.M.
