1897 Holograph Two Page Letter From Lucy Geneviève Teresa Ward, Countess de Guerbel to a Miss Phelps
On offer, a letter from Geneviève Ward to a friend Miss Phelps (possibly Miss Laura B. Phelps, violin virtuoso) Written upon 22 Avenue Road, Regent's Park N.W. letterhead. Dated Jan. 8th, 97, Ward asks Miss Phelps to confer with a professor, who she mentioned was her uncle, to determine what book he would recommend to suit Leo’s purpose in office.
Lucy Geneviève Teresa Ward (1837-1922), Countess de Guerbel [known popularly as Dame Genevieve Ward] United Kingdom based American who successfully accomplished two different careers, soprano first and actress later. As a stage actress who performed numerous times in Britain and the United States. This allowed her to meet several famous people of the era, including Oscar Wilde, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, and King Edward VIIShe was appointed Honorary Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire on her 84th birthday in 1921.
This double sided letter is 3-¾ x 6 inches, with a horizontal fold crease, some minor soiling, and a rough left edge. Condition is Good.
