On offer is a delightful personal note that is undated but was likely written in 18th Century France. The letter was written by an individual to his mother. Neither are identified by name. Our author greets both their mother and sisters. The writer then confirms that a small payment has been made to pay an outstanding debt. An excerpt of the letter follows:

Je souhaite le bonjour ama chere maman ainsi que a mes charmantes soeurs que j'embrasse de coeur J'ai remit les 10 francs a G P payer la vieille Vous etes vous [] a Brignoles avant d'aller a la Ressiguiere

[Translation: I wish to greet my dear mother and my lovely sisters whom I embrace with all my heart I gave the 10 francs to G P to pay the old lady. Are you in Brignoles before going to the Ressiguiere]

The two communities mentioned are in the south of France, Brignoles being close to Marseilles.

For a social historian, this small piece hints at the personal lives of ordinary people living in rural France in the 18th century.

This small, single-sided manuscript measures 5.0 inches by 8.0 inches. The paper is in good condition and the handwriting is legible.
