18th Century Detailed List of Workers in St. Just, France
10248On offer is a detailed inventory of workers in the Township / Commune of St. Just in mid-18th century France.
The document is titled Etat des Terres du Dommaine de St. Just – Savoise (State of the Lands of St. Just – in Savoy). St. Just is a township or, in French, a Commune, located in the very south of France. At the time of this document, estimated in the mid-18th century, it was essentially fields and forests. The list of labourers indicate that most were “boiselliers” or woodcutters.
For an economist or social historian, this is a useful document as it offers a look at one aspect of life in pre-revolution rural France
