On offer is an original late 18th Century 'collection' letter from Mr. Elijah Allen, a prominent businessman from Hunterdon County, New Jersey, dated 4/25/1792. It refers to a General Maxwell and money and says in part: "Dear sir, General Maxwell has been here & through the multiplicity of business forgot to bring the money to me. Therefore if any of you will go to Greenwich expect you can have the sum mentioned be there…." Signed by Wm Nesbitt for Mr. Elijah Allen. Provenance: Collection of Moses and Elijah Allen which was noted as being a "truly a great collection of documents and papers that document wealthy New Jersey businessmen of the late 18th and early 19th centuries"[NJ Historical Society].
